Tonbridge Lions Club Holly Renny Memorial Award

Tonbridge Lions Club annual Holly Renny Memorial Award was presented this year by his Granddaughter Judy Erander.

Since 1993 the Holly Renny Award has been presented each year by the Club President at a meeting in May, the anniversary of Holly’s death, to a person (or organisation) who has provided a significant service to the Club.

The recipient of the award this year was Linda Lacey who over many years has designed, produced and printed theprogrammes and art works required for the various Club events and functions.

Holly Renny was a member of the Club who held many offices and was President in 1956/7. District appointments followed and he became Zone Chairman, Deputy District and finally District Governor in 1960/1. His service in that capacity was the last year the British Isles and Ireland were one District. As District Governor he had to visit LionsClubs in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Holly’s service to Tonbridge Lions Club and Lionism in general was recognised by the award of Life Membership. This was presented in 1989 by the then President Richard Rose at an informal gathering of Past Presidents of the Club.

Holly died in 1992 and subsequently his family presented to the Club a cut glass decanter to be known as the Holly Renny Memorial Award.

Lion President Richard Hill said “Due to a chance meeting with one of our members we were able to invite Holly’s granddaughter to present this year’s award at one of our dinner meetings. Judy can remember her grandfather travelling all over country and even to Canada on Lions business but had no idea that the family had presented the Club with the award. She was delighted to be given the opportunity to present the award to this year’ recipient Linda Lacey”
