Last Wednesday six local junior schools sent choirs to sing in the annual concert organised by Tonbridge Lions Club. Choirs from Stocks Green, Slade, Woodlands, St Margaret Clitherow, Bishop Chavasse and Royal Rise all sang two of their own choices before all joining together to sing in a grand finale.
The musical choices were inspired and included many modern day favourites like ‘Penny Lane’ by The Beatles, ‘We are the Champions’ by Queen and a medley of Abba songs. There were also older classics like ‘Consider Yourself’ by Lionel Bart and ‘Down by the Riverside’ by Ernest Moeran. The finale was truly breath taking with all 180 children singing a very modern medley from the musical ‘Hairspray’.
Thanks go to Matt Hull of the Baptist Church who was the technician on the night. At the end of the concert, there was a short speech by the Lions President Phil Jesson followed by a presentation of certificates to all the children that sang. Tonbridge Lions marshalled the evening and the Club donated £150 to each school to further the childrens’ musical enjoyment.
