Record-Breaking Turnout for Run Kent Half Marathon, 10k and 5k 2026
This year's Run Kent Half Marathon, 10K and 5K proved to be the biggest event in its fifteen-year history, with a record-breaking 1,844 runners taking part on Sunday 4 October.
Held in ideal cool and dry conditions, the event attracted participants of all ages and abilities, from first-time 5K runners to experienced half marathon competitors. The scenic route through the countryside between Tonbridge and Leigh once again provided a fantastic backdrop for a memorable day of running and community spirit.
Originally established in 2011 as a joint initiative between Tonbridge Lions Club and Tonbridge Rotary Club, the event has grown significantly over the years. Now organised by RunThrough, Run Kent attracts runners from across Kent and beyond while continuing to raise vital funds for local Lions and Rotary charitable projects.
A key part of the event's success was the contribution of more than 70 volunteers from the Lions and Rotary Clubs. Volunteers carried out a range of essential roles, including course marshalling and operating the baggage drop facilities, helping to ensure that everything ran smoothly for participants throughout the day.
The enthusiasm of local residents and supporters also played an important role, with spectators lining sections of the route to encourage runners and create a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish.
Now in its fifteenth year, this event continues to be one of the region's most popular road races. We are delighted to see a record number of entries this year and are grateful to everyone who made the event possible, especially our volunteers, sponsors and partner organisations who brought energy, enthusiasm and encouragement every step of the way.
The organising committee would like to thank everyone involved, including sponsors, local partners, volunteers and members of the community whose support helped make the event such an outstanding success.
Looking Ahead to Next Year
Planning for next year's Run Kent event, taking place on 3 October, is already underway, with organisers aiming to build on this year's success and deliver an even bigger and better experience for runners and spectators alike.
As always, volunteers will be crucial to the safe and successful delivery of the event. Anyone interested in helping as a marshal next year is invited to contact Volunteer Coordinator Gordon Hill at thmmarshalling@gmail.com.
We look forward to welcoming runners, volunteers and supporters back for another fantastic day of community sport in 2027.
