Following our club’s donation of £6,195 to the Scotts Project Trust for enhancing the outdoor session space, we were invited to see the progress that has been made on this major project. Lion President Gordon Hill with VP Lion Phil Jesson, IPP Lion Richard Hill and Lions Neal Charlesworth and John Ruck were shown around by Scotts Administration Manager, Lizzy Paler and Ron Nunn, the Facilities & Maintenance Manager.
First stop was the former workshop used by Facilities and Maintenance which has been repurposed into a warm, dry and inclusive space for learning. Ideally positioned in the heart of the Day Service area, the building will now accommodate eight students and the staff, including wheelchair users. Then over the new fully accessible paths within the outdoor space to see the new shed where the gardening aids and tools are safely kept. Here a group of students presented a picture to Lion President Gordon to show their gratitude for benefits that came from the donation. Next we saw the new accessible raised beds area next to the spot where an accessible “lean-to” greenhouse is soon to be built. Lots more still to do with stocking the borders and planting fruit trees but so much already completed. Finally we enjoyed typical Scotts hospitality with tea and cakes with Scotts Day Services and Marketing Administrator, Caroline Hollobon and HR and Office Administrator, Sharon Chalklin.
