Serenade of Memories: A Joyful Afternoon of Music and Nostalgia

Updated: Jul 30

The Methodist Church on Higham Lane, Tonbridge, was filled with warmth, joy, and unforgettable melodies on Saturday, July 26th, as the Musical Sing-a-Long Choir presented their Summer Concert, Serenade of Memories. This uplifting afternoon was organised by Tonbridge Dementia Friendly Community, in collaboration with KCC and the Tonbridge Lions Club, bringing people together through the timeless power of music.

Curated by Lion Richard Hill, the concert featured a heart-warming mix of familiar musical numbers that had the audience singing along from start to finish. Whether it was a cherished show tune or a classic favourite, every song struck a chord. One particularly touching moment came from mother and daughter duo Louise and Ruby Sanders, whose beautiful harmonies captivated the audience and earned warm applause. Accompanist Chris Coverly added depth and emotion to each performance with his thoughtful piano work, seamlessly supporting the choir, with Peter Wilson accompanying the soloists.

Lighter moments added to the charm of the afternoon including  a comedy duet by Richard Hill and Neil Charlesworth, a heartfelt monologue from John Quinton and a selection of humorous poems by Pam Ayres, brought to life by Julie Hill. Gerry Machuca brought an international touch with his heartfelt rendition of Here, There and Everywhere, which was especially well-received.

During the interval, guests enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea provided by the Tonbridge Lions Ladies, offering time to relax, chat, and connect with friends old and new.

Serenade of Memories is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of community, inclusion, and the profound impact of music on memory and wellbeing. A huge thank you to all the performers, volunteers, and supporters who made this event possible. Your energy, talent, and dedication truly made Serenade of Memories a memorable and meaningful afternoon for everyone who attended.

Stay tuned for future events, and be part of the magic that music brings to our community.
