Freddie Skarbek from Tonbridge School was presented with the Lions Community Service Award on the school’s Skinners Day. Freddie has engaged with community service throughout his five years at the school, including running an after-school sports club at Slade primary school, leading swimming lessons with pupils from the Phoenix Centre for children with autism and helping out at Nexus School. He has also worked with Child Action Lanka in Batticaloa where he helped deliver a human rights education programme to the children, visited schools, and helped run a street cricket tournament. Freddie plans to spend the prize to buy equipment he needs for a fundraising long distance run he will be doing next year from Lands end to John o’ Groats.
Lion President Phil & Jo had the great pleasure to present a Tonbridge Lions Community Award to Piper Mac Feely of Tonbridge Grammar School at the Sixth Form Class of 2025 Graduation ceremony on Wednesday, 9th July. Piper was given the Award by the school in recognition of her support for the charity ‘Surfers against Sewage’. In particular, efforts by her and fellow year group colleagues to undertake large-scale rubbish collection in and around Hastings were recognised. Her dedication to this project was a key factor for the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) core element of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme undertaken by sixth formers at TGS.
