LP Phil Jesson & Lion Richard Hill met with, Founder and Chair, Claudia Goodman on the 27th May in order to present a donation of £200 to the Charity. The funds will enable purchase of Children’s Activity packs and provide refreshments for future Group meetings.
The West Kent Autism Support Society (WKAPSS) was founded by Claudia Goodman in 2020 with just one parent. The Society now supports 400 families in West Kent, delivering vital information about local support as well as recommendations and links to useful products and resources. Advice and guidance regarding education and well-being is also a much-needed priority. Most of all, the community provides empathy, acceptance, understanding and knowledge from other parents with a wealth of lived experience.
Regular coffee morning and occasional social evenings are arranged as well as activities and events for children to meet and socialise. Most of all, the Society provides a safe, confidential and non -judgemental space for parents to meet others with similar experiences; to feel less isolated and alone on what can be an extremely challenging and bumpy journey.
Claudia and Treasurer, Henry Raschen, were most appreciative of the Club donation saying ‘this makes a huge difference to WKAPSS, enhancing the support for our West Kent families with autistic children.’ Claudia was most complimentary regarding the many Community initiatives that the Tonbridge Lions Club is involved in and the support provided to many local groups and organisations.
